Frequently Asked Questions

What is this page?

This is the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page of the Onero Institute Internal Site. Listed here are some of the most common questions that you may have along with the most straightforward answers. If there is a person who would have more pertinent/specific information, their role is listed and the current holder of that position is listed in brackets.

What’s the different between the Onero Institute and Onero GW?

The Onero Institute is the umbrella nonprofit organization. Onero GW is a chapter of the organization that operates at George Washington University (where we first received support and funding).

Is Onero a non-profit organization or a student organization?

The Onero Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Onero GW and Onero Tufts are chapters of the organization that operate as student organizations at their respective campuses.

How was Onero founded?

The Onero Institute was initially conceived by founders Elad Raymond and Andrew Ma while they were roomates at the School for Ethics and Global Leadership in 2016. Several years later, they managed to finally kickstart the Onero Institute at GW and create the organization we know today.

What does Onero mean?

Onero is a Latin verb meaning “to burden” or “to overload.” We selected this name as it symbolizes the type of load the young people of the world will have to bear as they grow into roles of leadership in international affairs.

What’s the best way to contact people?

Most people are responsive on Slack and via Email. Some members may list alternative methods of communication (such as a phone number). Generally speaking, do the following:

  • Use Slack for any routine communications

  • Use Email for important announcements, external communications, and anything that people should have a record of

  • Use other forms of communication only when the person you are speaking with has indicated that they prefer it or they have not responded to Slack and Email.

Of course, if you are providing instructions for people outside of the organization, please instruct them to use Email.
